EXPLORING THE INTERSECTIONS OF
CULTURE, GENDER, & PSYCHOLOGY

The Culture, Gender & Psychology Graduate Research group brings together doctoral students who are interested in exploring the intersections between these broad areas. We come together to share research ideas, collaborate on research and publication projects, and participate in professional development workshops. Members of this group are psychology doctoral students who are being primarily advised by either Dr. Asia Eaton and Dr. Dionne Stephens

Doctoral Students working with Dr. Eaton conduct their research through the Psychology, Women & Relationships (PWR) Lab. This lab conduct social psychological research on the interaction between gender and social power, including how social power grounds and structures  gender-differentiated behaviors and relationships between men and women, as well as how men and women experience and enact powerful roles.

Doctoral Students working with Dr.  Stephens conduct their research through the Health Disparities & Culture Identities (HDCI) Lab. This research focuses on bringing attention to the ways psychological and sociocultural factors affect the health outcomes in diverse communities. Their recent study outcomes highlight the importance of gender and racial/ ethnic identity, familial processes, and media influences on behavioral outcomes.

Given the high level of one- on- one mentoring and faculty/ student engagement that takes place in our group, only doctoral students advised primarily by either Dr. Asia Eaton and Dr. Dionne Stephens  participate in this group.
